Diet
Giant palm salamander is predominantly insectivorous, feeding on small arthropods. The species displays a particular appetite for ants and beetles, skillfully foraging in leaf litter at night to obtain its prey.
Appearance
Giant palm salamander is a robust amphibian with a long, flattened body and exceptionally long, slender limbs ending in large, fully webbed feet. Its skin is moist and displays varying brown shades, often spotted or streaked with darker markings. Notably, it has a protuberant, elongated snout and a distinctively long, arrowhead-shaped tongue. Both males and females generally share the same characteristics, with no significant differences in appearance.
Behavior
Giant palm salamander is a nocturnal, arboreal species, engaging in unique vertical climbing and upside-down walking behaviors. It exhibits solitary habits, only interacting for mating. It is territorial, defending spaces around tree crevices. Predominantly insectivorous, giant palm salamander employs a sit-and-wait hunting strategy, relying on camouflage for both predator avoidance and feeding.
