Diet

Red-tailed boa primarily feeds on small to medium-sized mammals, often including rodents, bats, and birds. Its slow metabolism allows it to survive weeks or even months between meals, with digestion aided by its potent gastric juices.

Appearance

The Boa constrictor is a large, heavy-bodied snake characterized by its smooth scales, varying from red, brown, or grey, adorned with distinct saddle-like patterns. Its thick, muscular body coils tightly to constrict prey, while the tail is prehensile aiding in tree climbing. The sharp-eyed head features heat-sensitive pits for hunting. Subspecies exhibit variability in size and color, whereas sex and age do not significantly alter appearance.

Behavior

Red-tailed boa predominantly displays solitary and nocturnal behavior, hunting for prey at night through heat sensors located on their heads. They are non-venomous and kill by constriction. Territorial behavior is evident in males during breeding season.
