Diet
Dwarf puff adder is a carnivorous species primarily feeding on lizards. It utilizes its impressive camouflage to ambush prey, striking swiftly when the prey is unaware. Occasionally, it also feeds on small mammalian species.
Appearance
Dwarf puff adder is a small, thick-bodied snake with rough, keeled scales. Its primary color is a sandy beige that blends seamlessly with its desert environment, with darker brown patterns providing ideal camouflage. Distinctive features include a short, wide head, tiny eyes located on top of its head, and a small, spade-shaped tail for burrowing.
Behavior
Dwarf puff adder is renowned for its distinctive 'sidewinding' locomotion, an adaptation to moving across warm desert sands. Being solitary and nocturnal, it exhibits ambush predatory behavior, lying in wait for prey while buried under sand.
