Major skink is primarily an herbivorous species, typically consuming a diet rich in leaves, flowers, and fruit. The species shows remarkable preference for the fruit and leaves of the fig tree, a dietary habit that is intrinsically associated with their natural habitat.
Appearance
Major skink is a medium size lizard with a robust and muscular body, bumpy skin and a large, thick tail. It sports a distinctive greenish-grey colour interspersed with dark spots. Adults possess a commanding crest of spiky scales running from the back of their necks to their tails. These features are more pronounced in males, who also boast more stocky bodies and blunter snouts than females.
Behavior
Major skink display a semi-arboreal lifestyle, adept at climbing and foraging in low vegetation. Their territorial behavior involves males exhibiting aggressive postures when challenged.
