Description
The Eastern wool lemur (Avahi laniger) is a primate species from the group of lemurs. The Peyrieras wool lemur, the southern wool lemur, the Ramanantsoavana wool lemur, the Betsileo wool lemur and the Moore wool lemur were recently separated from this species as separate species.

Eastern woolly lemur is a folivorous animal, primarily subsisting on a diet of leaves. It demonstrates a notable preference for young, tender leaves, fruits and flowers of over 20 different plant species, consuming them in varied proportions according to seasonal availability.
Appearance
Eastern woolly lemur is a small, slow-moving primate, typically weighing between 0.7 - 1.3 kilograms. Its body is covered in dense fur that varies from grey-brown to rufous with an occasionally pale underbelly. Its tail is notably long and woolly. Round face with large, forward-facing eyes is characteristic of the species. No significant differences are observed between sexes or age groups visually.
Behavior
Eastern woolly lemur is a nocturnal primate, spending its daytime hours forming close-knit social groups for nesting and grooming. It primarily feeds on leaves, showing a peculiar vertical clinging and leaping foraging and locomotion behavior. The species maintains a territory through vocalizations and scent-marking and demonstrates remarkable adaptability to its arboreal habitat.
