Atheris chlorechis is a venomous viper species found only in the forests of West Africa. No subspecies are currently recognized.

Appearance
West african bush viper is a small-sized snake, renowned for its slender, serpentine body covered in rough, keeled scales. Its appearance is dominated by a spectacular array of vivid green, occasionally interspersed with yellow, giving it effective camouflage in foliage. Notably, it possesses elongated, hinged fangs in the front. No significant differences in appearance are seen due to age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
West african bush viper is a nocturnal, arboreal species primarily solitary in nature. Its defense mechanism is to lie motionless, using its cryptic coloration for camouflage in high vegetation. When threatened, it strikes with a notably fast, sideways motion. It doesn't show explicit territorial behavior.
