Description
The pouched frog (Assa darlingtoni) is a small, terrestrial frog found in rainforests in mountain areas of south-eastern Queensland and northern New South Wales, Australia. It is the sole species within the genus Assa, and is part of the family Myobatrachidae.

Pouched frog is largely a nighttime forager, using its long, sticky tongue to catch prey like insects and spiders. It tends to exhibit territorial behaviors, defending its domain from other males. While it spends most of its time solo, during the breeding season, multiple females may occupy a single male's territory. Known for its distinctive defense mechanism, pouched frog secretes a mild venom and/or plays dead when threatened.
