General Info

Lifespan
2-8 years
Diet
Silky anole principally subsists on a diet of small arthropods, with particular preference for spiders and insects. Predation varies depending on available prey in its habitat.
Appearance
Small and slender, silky anole has a long body covered in scales. Its main color varies from brown to gray, effectively blending in with tree bark. The tail is long and tapered, useful for maneuvering through vegetation. A dewlap, which is more pronounced in males, can extend from under its throat. Adults can reach lengths of 15-20 cm, with males generally being larger than females. There is no significant difference in color between genders or age groups.
Behavior
Silky anole is a solitary and territorial reptile, often seen basking on tree trunks and lower branches during the day. This species is primarily arboreal, showing adaptations for vertical climbing such as subdigital pad lamellae. Notably, males display a bluish dewlap during courtship rituals or when defending their territory, signalling a unique aspect of their interaction with other individuals.
