Diet
Brown anole primarily sustains on a diet rich in insects, especially ants and beetles. However, it also opportunistically feeds on other arthropods and tender plant materials when required, displaying pronounced foraging behavior.
Appearance
Brown anole is a small, slender lizard featuring rough, scaled skin. Its body color varies from brown to gray with darker splotches along its back, tail, and limbs. Notably, it exhibits a dewlap, or throat fan, that can be red-orange or yellow and is larger in males. Other distinguishing characteristics include its elongated body, slim tail, and long, slender toes that are particularly well-adapted for tree-climbing. No significant features change with age, sex, or subspecies.
Behavior
Brown anole displays a diurnal active lifestyle primarily spending time in vegetation. Characterized by male territoriality, these animals often perform elaborate displays of push-ups and head-bobs. Notably, they are known for their survival adaptation pushing the caps off long, thin-toed feet for adhesion to surfaces, a remarkable advantage in their arboreal habitats.
