4-6 years
Diet
Emerald anole is mainly insectivorous, feasting primarily on arthropods. Its dietary habits involve frequent consumption of spiders and beetles. Occasionally, it dines on small invertebrates, particularly mollusks.
Appearance
The emerald anole is a medium-sized lizard, notable for its elongated body covered in scales. This species showcases dull shades of brown to green, allowing it to blend with its surroundings. It has a distinct triangular head and a long thin tail, making up most of its length. Males exhibit a large, extendable dewlap, which ranges in color from red to yellow, used in territorial displays. No major age or gender differences, besides the male's dewlap, exist.
Behavior
Emerald anole is a diurnal species, active during daylight hours. Solitary in nature, it exhibits significant territorial behavior, fiercely defending its home range. It's arboreal, adept at climbing trees and bushes in its native habitat. Males often use throat-fan extensions, known as dewlaps, in courtship displays or territorial disputes, signaling their readiness to mate or fight.
