General Info

Lifespan
6-8 years
Diet
Knight anole predominantly feeds on a variety of insects, especially beetles and spiders. Occasionally, it consumes eggs, small invertebrates, fruits, and even young lizards, showcasing its adaptable nature.
Appearance
Knight anole is a large species of lizard with elongated, somewhat flattened bodies and smooth, shiny skin. Its color ranges from bright green to brown and features prominent white or yellow markings. Males possess a large flap of skin under their necks, known as a dewlap, which can be extended for communication. This dewlap is more pronounced in males than in females. Juveniles are predominantly green, transitioning to more complex coloration as they age.
Behavior
Knight anole is a primarily arboreal species, spending most of its time in trees. Notably, it exhibits a high level of territorial aggression, defending its area fiercely against invaders. This species is solitary, primarily interacting with others during the breeding season. For survival, it relies on camouflage within its arboreal environment and sunbathing to regulate body temperature.
