 The Arizona toad (Anaxyrus microscaphus) is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is endemic to the southwestern United States, where its natural habitats are temperate lowland forests, rivers and streams, swamps, freshwater marshes, freshwater springs, ponds, open excavations, irrigated land, and seasonally flooded agricultural land.

 Arizona toad feeds predominantly on invertebrates, with a marked preference for ants. Its diet also includes beetles, spiders, and other small arthropods, which it actively hunts in its arid habitat. 
   Behavior
 Arizona toad engages in nocturnal foraging habits, predominantly seeking small invertebrates. It exhibits solitary behaviors, only socializing during the brief mating season. This species is notable for its unique defensive posture, inflating its body while secreting a noxious substance, deterring predators. Arizona toad does not exhibit territorial dominance nor migratory tendencies.
