Amietia vertebralis, also known as Maluti river frog, aquatic river frog, ice frog, large-mouthed frog, or water frog, is a species of frogs in the family Pyxicephalidae. It is an aquatic high-altitude species found in Lesotho and adjacent South Africa.

Appearance
Maluti river frog is a medium-sized frog, characterised by a robust, somewhat flattened body adorned with smooth skin. This species is typically a mottled brown or grey, enabling it to blend with its surroundings. It features large, bulging eyes and a generously sized mouth. In contrast to males, females are often larger and darker in colour. Notably, the young maluti river frog innate a more vibrant green colouration that steadily dulls as they age.
Behavior
Maluti river frog is predominantly diurnal, displaying unique 'basking' behavior in sunlight for thermoregulation given its ectothermic nature.
