Description
Ameiva praesignis, known as giant ameiva and Amazon racerunner, is a species of teiid lizard found in Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, and Colombia.

Giant ameiva is primarily an omnivore with a preference for arthropods and fruit. Although insects make up a considerable part of its diet, it complements this with a selection of ripe tropical fruits, thereby maintaining a balanced nutritional intake.
Appearance
Giant ameiva is a medium-sized lizard with a slender body shape and glossy, smooth scales. Its skin has dominant hues of olive-green and brown, decorated with a series of longitudinal light bands on its back. The tail is long, often twice the length of its body. No significant variations in appearance due to age, gender or subspecies have been recorded.
Behavior
Giant ameiva primarily exhibits a diurnal lifestyle, venturing out into open areas to find food in the form of insects, fruits, and flowers. Its characteristic long, slender body allows for fast, rapid movement. As a solitary species, giant ameiva mainly engage in intraspecies interactions during the breeding season. The species demonstrates territoriality, fiercely guarding its home range from others.
