Diet
The primary food source for giant ameiva is comprised predominantly of arthropods. Predominantly, it has an affinity for consuming ants, beetles, spiders, and various small invertebrates. Giant ameiva also occasionally consumes fruits and plant matters, enriching its diet with essential nutrients.
Appearance
Giant ameiva is a large, robust lizard, racing up to 60 cm in length. Its body is long and slender, covered in smooth scales. The lizard is primarily greenish to brown, with irregular stripes on its back and on the sides of its tail. It features a long, whip-like tail that is often twice the length of its body. Males are generally larger and have dark throats, which females and juveniles lack.
Behavior
Giant ameiva exhibits a diurnal and terrestrial lifestyle, often found actively basking and foraging during the day.
