Description
Amblyodipsas polylepis, or the common purple-glossed snake, is a species of venomous rear-fanged snake in the Atractaspididae family.
General Info
Lifespan
15-20 years
Diet
Common purple-glossed snake is an insectivorous species that predominantly feeds on ants. Their specialized diet also includes termites and beetles, pursuing their prey primarily on the ground with remarkable efficiency.
Appearance
Common purple-glossed snake is a medium-sized snake with a slender build. Its scales possess a complex pattern that consists primarily of dark brown to black bold markings against a lighter brown background. The underbelly of common purple-glossed snake, however, is complementarily a pale cream color. This nocturnal creature lacks any notable appendages like wings or horns.
Behavior
Common purple-glossed snake is a nocturnal, solitary serpent. It forages on the ground, primarily hunting for frogs. Upon detection of a potential predator, it employs an unique defense mechanism: it flattens its body to mimic a venomous snake. Its natural tendency is to avoid confrontation, retreating rather than attacking. Notably, it doesn't actively defend its territory.
