Diet
Zaparo's poison frog is predominantly insectivorous, feasting mainly on small arthropods. The animal employs a specific hunting style, chasing after its prey--typically, ants, beetles, and spiders--across the rainforest floor.
Appearance
Zaparo's poison frog is a small frog species with a rectangular body shape covered in glossy skin not exceeding 25 mm in length. Its striking coloration is characteristically black with bright yellow inclusions on the dorsum, often based on a pattern of stripes or dots. Both sexes and age classes share a similar appearance.
Behavior
Zaparo's poison frog is primarily diurnal, engaging in distinctive chorus behavior during dawn and dusk. This species is highly terrestrial and is known for its unique hopping locomotion. Adult males of zaparo's poison frog are territorial and utilize auditory cues to defend their habitats. The reproductive behavior typically involves fend-off calls and direct territorial fights.
