Description
Aglyptodactylus madagascariensis is a species of frog in the family Mantellidae known commonly as the Madagascar jumping frog. It is endemic to Madagascar, where it has a wide distribution across the eastern side of the island.

Appearance
Madagascar jumping frog is a medium-sized frog with a robust, somewhat elongated body. It possesses smooth, moist skin that is primarily brown, often with darker spots or stripes. Its underside is usually lighter, varying from white to yellowish. Mature males have black, callosity-covered thumbs. Distinguishing features include its large, bulging eyes, with horizontal pupils, and slender but strong limbs with webbed fingers and toes.
Behavior
Madagascar jumping frog is predominantly nocturnal, employing its excellent night vision and acoustics to locate insects, its primary diet. Socially, it exhibits solitary behavior, only coming together for breeding seasons. Uniquely, males establish territories vocally, producing distinctive calls, which also serve as mating displays. This skittish species employs concealment by day, utilizing the dense rainforest undergrowth as camouflage.
