Description
Florida cottonmouth is a seminal figure in the aquatic ecosystem, deploying a unique ambush hunting strategy, where it remains submerged with only its eyes and nostrils above water, patiently awaiting unsuspecting prey. Its other notable behavior is the utilization of heat-sensing pits located on its head, using these to locate warm-blooded predators or prey, even in complete darkness.

It possesses strongly elliptical pupils and a broad, triangular head. No notable sexual dimorphism exists in this species.
