Diet
Morelet's tree frog's nutritional requirements are fulfilled chiefly through a carnivorous diet, consisting predominantly of small invertebrates such as insects and spiders. Predominantly nocturnal, they actively forage for food at night.
Appearance
Morelet's tree frog is a medium-sized frog with a slender body covered in smooth skin. It displays a striking leaf-green with variable darker blotches, serving as camouflage in vegetation. Its most distinctive features are its broad head and large, bright red eyes with vertical pupils. Remarkably, the interiors of the legs and thighs exhibit a rich dark violet or magenta tone. There are no notable differences in appearance with respect to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Morelet's tree frog is a nocturnal amphibian, renowned for its extraordinary reproductive behavior. Males vocalize at night to attract females, creating a distinctive chorus around breeding ponds. A solitary species outside breeding season, it exhibits aggressive territoriality, characterized by visual threat displays and physical combats. Adapted to its arboreal habitat, morelet's tree frog employs crypsis, a camouflage mechanism to blend with leafy backgrounds, enhancing its survivability.
